Lemon Basil Rice With Beef Sausage

Trendy Eat Tips
*The amount of sausage can be adjusted according to your family size.
* Chicken bouillon and lemon and herb seasonings may already contain salt, so start with a small amount of added salt.
* Check the directions on your jasmine rice package because the amount of broth and cooking time can vary by brand.
* For a stronger lemon flavor, add a little fresh lemon zest before serving.
* Don’t add the sausage back too early; returning it after the rice cooks helps it retain its browned texture.
* Allowing the rice to rest before fluffing helps prevent it from becoming sticky or mush
Notes

1
1. Prepare the ingredients
Slice the beef sausage into rounds. Chop the onion and red bell pepper, mince the garlic, and chop the fresh basil. Reserve a small amount of basil for garnishing the finished dish.
Rinse the jasmine rice under cool water until the water is mostly clear, then drain it well.
2. Cook the sausage
Heat the olive oil in a large, deep skillet or pot over medium heat.
Add the sliced sausage and cook for approximately 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned around the edges. Remove the sausage from the pan and set it aside.
3. Sauté the vegetables
If the pan appears dry, add another small drizzle of olive oil. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook for approximately 1–2 minutes, stirring frequently.
Add the chopped red pepper and most of the fresh basil. Cook for another 2–3 minutes, mixing everything well.
4. Add the lemon
Pour the fresh lemon juice into the pan. Stir while gently scraping the bottom of the pan to loosen the flavorful browned pieces left from the sausage.
5. Toast the rice
Add the rinsed and drained jasmine rice and turmeric. Stir continuously for approximately 1–2 minutes, allowing the rice to toast lightly and become evenly coated.
6. Add the broth and seasonings
Stir in the chicken broth, chicken bouillon, zesty lemon paste, dried basil, Italian seasoning, lemon and herb seasoning, onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper, and a small amount of salt.
Mix well and bring the liquid to a gentle boil.
7. Cook the rice
Reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid. Allow the rice to cook undisturbed for approximately 18–22 minutes, or according to the jasmine rice package instructions.
Avoid removing the lid or stirring while the rice cooks because this releases the steam needed to cook it evenly.
8. Rest and finish
Remove the pot from the heat and let the rice rest, covered, for 5–10 minutes.
Remove the lid and fluff the rice gently with a fork. Taste and add more seasoning or salt if needed.
Return the cooked sausage to the pot and gently mix it into the rice. Finish with the reserved fresh basil and lemon wheels.
